On 1 January 2019, Sylva de Fluiter, a Swiss national, will take over the management of UNIQA Re AG from Hans Uwe Müller, who is to retire after 14 years at the UNIQA Group’s reinsurance company. UNIQA Re AG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UNIQA Insurance Group AG, is headquartered in Zurich and has 19 employees. UNIQA Re is a service company that provides its expertise exclusively to companies within the UNIQA Group. In this process, UNIQA Re supports and advises all the UNIQA companies in 18 European countries with regard to reinsurance matters in the life and non-life sectors. UNIQA Re is responsible for, coordinates and arranges internal and external reinsurance relationships for the UNIQA Group companies, thus helping to optimise their risk capital commitments.
Before moving to UNIQA Re Sylva de Fluiter most recently worked as Chief Operating Officer of reinsurance company Sompo Canopius Re. Prior to that, she held the post of Chief Risk Officer at primary insurer and reinsurer Infrassure as well as a management position in the Large Loss Management division of Swiss Re. Sylva de Fluiter holds a doctorate in law along with MBA and MSc degrees and has acquired experience both in claims and client management and as a risk manager and chief operating officer over the course of her career to date. She will officially take over the management of UNIQA Re in January 2019. Until the end of the year she will work hand in hand with long-time Managing Director Hans Uwe Müller. Müller, who has worked at UNIQA Re for a total of 14 years, will retire after leaving the company at the end of December 2018. Müller played a substantial part in UNIQA Re’s expansion as a Group-wide competence centre for reinsurance and introduced a new integrated risk management system at UNIQA via the reinsurer.
